This is a US made Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine, chambered in .44 WCF. The serial number dates to 1902 as the year of manufacture. That year Winchester made just over 17,000 Model 92 rifles in various calibres included .44, however this example was exported to the UK and has the early British proof from this period. During WWI the British procured small amounts of under lever rifles and carbines in large calibres from Winchester to arm the Naval and Airforces forces. Deactivated with a working action.
