This is a WWI dated Ishaphore SMLE No1 MKIII* rifle. The regimental disc reads "RFI '18 S M 286" - Royal Facory Ishaphore 1918. Sappers & Miners, weapon number 286. Often forgotten, Indian and other colonial forces played a vital roll during WWI engagements, winning many strategic battles and with many regiments gaining a fierce reputation for there hand to hand fighting. This SMLE would have also seen service during WWII. A must have for the WWI or SMLE/Enfield collector.
