Product Information

Deactivated WWII SMLE No1 MKIII* Dated 1940 (Dunkirk and Battle of Britain Era). Manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA Co) with matching numbers and bolt. With the outbreak of WWII the British military soon realised a huge shortage in serviceable rifles. Although during the inter war years various new designs and improvements had been trialed, it soon became apparent that the manufacture of the trusty SMLE was the easiest short term fix. During 1940 British weapons manufacturers were targeted and subject to heavy and constant bombing campaigns from the German Luftwaffe. Note the rough machining marks and unfinished BSA logo. This rifle was manufactured quickly during this period. It may well have been involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk in June 1940. A great piece of British WWII history. Comes with sling. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
