WWII Thompson 1928A1 submachine gun. The letters “U.S.” began to appear on the receivers after the Lend-Lease Act was passed in March 1941. On the left hand side of the receiver are the Army Inspector of Ordnance for the Rochester District were Lt. Colonel Ray L. Bowlin using the stamp, RLB from 1940, until 1942, along with the GEG (George E. Golland) and crossed cannons ordnance stamps. This example is one of less common 1928s with a smooth barrel, most were finned. This was done in an attempt to speed up production and increase numbers as demand was very high. The serial number dates this 1928A1 to 1942. They were issued to US, British and Allied forces along with British Home guard units during World War Two. Comes with Auto Ordnance 20 round stick magazine containing inert .45 rounds, plus oil bottle, brass cleaning rod and sling. Deactivated to with tensioned cocking handle and moving trigger it can be partially stripped.
