Product Information

A superb early production German Imperial Army issued Gew 98 rifle. Dated 1908 it was manufactured by Danzig. It is and early example from that years production with an "a" suffix after the serial number. That puts it around rifle number 15,347th from that year. It has all matching numbers except for the bolt that is army marked. The regimental disc reads "18.R.8.167" - 18th Infantry Regiment, 8th Kompany, weapon number 167. This regiment fought in some of the most famous battles of WW1 seeing extensive action in 1914 in Russia, invading Romania 1916, in 1917 transferring to France for the Nivelle offensive and 1918 Flanders and second battle of the Somme. They finished the war in Argonne.

These early pre WWI rifles are seldom seen and to find one in such lovely original condition is a rare find indeed. Comes complete with an original leather sling and cleaning rod. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
