This is a very early, first year of production, 1940 dated"40" MP40 submachine gun. Correct makers code "122" C.G.Haenel, Suhl and Waffenamt code WaA815. 1940 saw the smallest number of MP40's made in one full years production, around 95,000. This one only being number 5428th built that year. In total just over one million MP40's were produced during WWII, with less than 10% being made in 1940!!! Making this one that much rarer. Early dated and coded MP40's are seldom seen, as most were captured, destroyed or taken as war trophies. This example has a slot in the rear of the magazine housing only seen on early production models. And early barrel nut with correct barrel protector /vehicle rest. Comes fitted an original wartime dated magazine and correct wartime leather sling. Deactivated in 1993 to old specifications with a working action, it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
