Product Information

This is a rare First World War Issued German Reich Revolver in stunning original condition with all matching numbers, dated 1894 with military inspection stamps. The M1879 Reichsrevolver, or Reichs-Commissions-revolver Modell 1879, was the standard service revolver used by the German Army from 1879 to 1908, before the PO8 Luger was adopted replacing it. These huge revolvers were extremely robust and chamber a mighty 10.6mm round. Often favoured by front line troops as it was far less prone to stoppages (unlike the Luger) and had formidable stopping power. They were used throughout WWI and even WWII, Luftwaffe pilots were known to use them. Interestingly it can chamber the Russian .44 S&W ammunition.

The revolver is manufactured by Erfurt, this lovely example has a beautiful patina to the original finish with correct German imperial inspection stamps and is regimentally marked with the initials 9.A.1.42, we believe to mean 9th Battalion, Artillery 1st Company, weapon number 42. Just visible by the number 1 is a faint number 4, many of these revolvers were reissued several times with the new regiment abbreviation over stamping the old one.

Chambered in an obsolete calibre (10.6mm) it can be owned live without any form of license. The bore and cylinders are both in good condition. It can be cocked, fully stripped and dry fired. The action is crisp and tight.
