Product Information

This is an FN Browning automatic rifle (B.A.R.) model D. The letter D in this name from French term Demontable - meaning removable. This one was made for the Colombian military and is marked with their crest. The model D is a refined version of the original US BAR which was used extensively by them during WWII. The Mod D was introduced into service before and during WWII. Interestingly the Germans captured them during WWII occupation of Belgium but decided the MG34 was better suited. One of the main complaints against the original BAR in combat was its fixed barrel which would regular over heat. This was addressed when redesigning this model and a quick release and finned barrel fitted to alleviate this problem. The bipod was repositioned on the gas port tube to make it more balanced and easier to handle. The end result was a superb all rounder which was adopted and used by many different military powers around the world. This example is still in great original condition with its factory finish and wood work. It is also a fairly early one and has magazine and extractor port covers built in to prevent contamination.
