This is an Italian Beretta M38/44 sub-machine gun chambered in 9mm. As the model desigation suggests, this variant was first produced in 1944 as a simplified version of the M38/42 & M38/43 models. Production continued after the war with both military and police units being armed with them. This example is dated 1953 and has matching numbers. It comes with a high capicity 40 round magazine containing several inert 9mm rounds. Deactivated to current spcifications with a with moving trigger, dummy bolt and selector button.
