Product Information

A superb 1800s cased, William Powell & Son shotgun. Chambered in 12 bore it is a pinfire, double barrel shotgun with 30 inch brown twist Damascus barrels. The top strap is engraved "William Powell & Son No. 3767" with twin pinfire hammers that are beautifully engraved with floral detailing. This rare shotgun features the Powells patent top lever opening mechanism. Rather than the more traditional and standard push lever the Powell system uses a lever that is lifted up to open the action and returns flush when released. The lock is engraved with the same high quality floral detailing and is marked " William Powell & Son" on both sides of the action. The attention to detail continues with a highly figured Walnut stock and forehand grip with fine hand cut chequering that is only found on top end shotguns. The trigger guard and butt stock plate are both blued with a continuation of the same floral engraving. The leather bound case has brass mountings with its original leather straps and more importantly, its original key to lock the case. It is constructed from oak with red baize lining compartments which contain various cleaning rods and brushes. The retainers label is "Dixon & Co" 4 Bath Street, Birmingham, who would have sold the gun originally.

This beautiful and rare hand crafted British shotgun is chambered in an obsolete calibre and can therefore be owned live without any form of license. It has a perfect working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
