Product Information

This is one of rarest K98s of the Second World War. The Kriegsmodell K98 was introduced late on during WWII from late 1944 until early 1945 before the factory fell into Allied control. 1945 saw an estimated production run of just 30,000!!! Its basically a simplified version of the K98. In order to help speed up production various parts and items were simplified or just eliminated, such as the bayonet lug, cleaning rod, bolt disassembly disk, bolt guide, barrel band spring, and even the locking screws for the floor plate. Often they were rough machined with mismatched parts, the aim being to make as many serviceable carbines as quickly as possible. This example is correctly marked dou 45 (Waffen Werke,Brunn Bystrica 1945). This carbine has just one serial number and a lack of Nazi Waffen stamps. They were issued to German units as well as the Volksstrum (Peoples Militia) or Germany's version of the British Home Guard. Hilter's last ditched war effort in arming the people to defend Germany against Allied forces as they advanced towards Berlin.

Post WWII this K98 fell into Israeli ownership and was re chambered in Nato 7.62mm. Interestingly and very unusual is the wood work which is converted from a WWI Gew98. They were used by the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) to protect Jewish settlements from Arab attacks and to carry out guerrilla operations against British Army forces in Palestine. It is somewhat ironic that this K98 was captured by Allied forces during WWII only to end up being used in anger against them again post WWII.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
