Inert British MOD Sabot Cut Away 120mm APFSDS L23 Round

This is a rare find, a British military Sabot cut-away round or instructional 120mm APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) L23 projectile. It is marked FFE 119 - Free From Explosives item no 119. This is an official MOD training aid that was used to demonstrate how a Sabot Armour Piercing round is constructed and how it works. The drill version of this type was issued for use with Challenger Mark 1 tanks in the 1980s. The round uses a monobloc tungsten alloy rod penetrator fitted with aluminium fins, and was carried in a light alloy sabot.
