This is a rare WWI French 37mm "shotgun" round. It is in effect an over-size shotgun round full of ball bearings/shrapnel. Upon detonation it would shower the air with its contents. It was designed to be used on German ground forces during WWI, and was fired from a Hotchkiss 37mm cannon. This example appears to be full of ball bearings. It also gives some insight into the types of weapons  both sides were prepared to use on each other!!
