This is a rare WWII MG34 Machine Gun wooden transit chest. Marked "METRA 7.9mm M/944" . The M/944 designation was assigned to MG34s that were destine for the Portuguese during WWII. Inside it has compartments for the gun and its various accessories. This chest along with its contents, is one of just 500 produced by Nazi Germany that were delivered to Portugal in early 1944. Portugal had adopted the MG34 in 1940 designating it the M/940 but re-designated it the M/944 when this shipment arrived. This chest along with it contents were shipped from the Bruno production line with each "dot" coded (Waffenwerke Brunn A.G. of Brno.) MG34. A rare find!! Pictured inside is product code S6.
