Product Information

WWI Fernglas 08 C.P.Goerz, Berlin Binoculars. Unlike the vast majority of WWI German army issued binoculars, this pair are double regimentially marked. The most clear markings read 38.R.5.7, this is an abbreviation for the East Prussian Fusiliers, who were under the command of Count Roon. This was one of the oldest Prussian regiments first established in 1749. During the Great War this regiment was part of the German 1st Army Corps. Due to the huge losses the East Prussian Fusiliers were disbanded, this often resulted in amalgamation with other units or regiments, hence the second set of regiment markings. The second set of markings on the brass rim are a little less clear, but look to be; J.R.328/11 K18 . This is most likely an abbreviation for ; J.R = Jäger Regiment, unit no 328. 11th Kompany 1918. To find both sets of markings on one particular pair of binoculars is incredible rare and unusual to say the least. What makes this pair that even more unusual is they were unearthed in France and are still in good working order with clear lenses, both of which can be individually focused.

Another very interesting part of this particular pair of binoculars history is there production date. The serial number 16952 dates to 1907 production. The model 08 was the official Prussian Army issued binoculars.
