Product Information

A scarce Austrian military, Steyr , Werndl model M1873 "rotating block" infantry rifle. This design was one of the first breech loading military rifles that was not made as a conversion from a muzzle loader. It was a very successful military rifle that was only in production from 1873 to 1878 with around 400,000 made during this period.  This example is regimentally marked on the butt plate. Some Austro-Hungarian units were issued with these rifles during WWI. The barrel shank is correctly marked "St 83" , this is the Austrian acceptance mark assigned to military weapons. Chambered in a massive 11mm with a rimfire action (obsolete calibre) it can be owned live without any form of license. The bore is still in very good condition and the action is still tight and crisp. This rifle would benefit externally from some light restoration.
