Product Information

An original Smith & Wesson Double Action, First Model revolver, chambered in .44 Russian. All visible numbers matched. It has a 4 inch barrel with the correct chequered hard rubber grips. The original finish has a lovely patina.  These very desirable US made revolvers are beautifully crafted. First introduced in 1870. The name came about when Russia’s military attaché to their U.S. embassy, General Gorloff, encountered this new S&W revolver and was impressed but didn't like it in its then calibre of .44/100. The Russian Government offered Smith & Wesson an order for 20,000 revolvers but only if they were chambered for a .44 calibre cartridge of their own design. Naturally Smith & Wesson agreed, and the .44 Russian went into production. This model was first produced in 1881 with production finally finishing in 1913, with only 53,590 produced.

Of interest, Jesse James himself was killed in 1882 by Bob Ford with a S&W New Model.

This lovely revolver is chambered in an obsolete calibre and can therefore be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The action is still tight and crisp and in perfect working order.

It is not deactivated in any way and is being sold as a collectors piece only.
