Product Information

A very impressive 1871 dated "Tower" Snider rifle. Chambered in .25 with the correct proof stamps, it was retailed by Andrew Charles, Birmingham who is listing as trading during this period and who also had premisses in London. The Snider system was adopted by the British army in 1864 as its standard military rifle. The system utilized a hinged breech block with an internal firing pin assembly that permitted the use of a self contained cartridge of lead bullet in cardboard. Then later in 1867 a brass casing.  These rifles proved very effective and were used throughout the British Empire in many conflicts and colonel wars. Large quantities were exported to America during the US Civil War.

Chambered in an antique obsolete calibre it can be owned live without any form of license. It has a very good condition bore and full working action.
