Product Information

This is an early production and very interesting Colt .38 Police Positive revolver with four inch barrel and matching numbers. The serial number 172880 dates to 1926 production. As the name suggests it was issued to the US police. Marked on the base of the pistol with the initials A.C.P. No 106, we believe this to be the abbreviation for Atlantic City Police( New Jersey) issue number 106 . In 1926 a teetotaling Army colonel named Ira Reeves took charge of the federal government's New Jersey district for Prohibition, during this period the US banned alcoholic drinks which remained in place from 1920 to 1933. Its also quite possible that this revolver was active service during the US financial crisis " Great Depression" 1929 to 1939, which included the Bonnie & Clyde era of the same period. A rare revolver that still retains much of its original finish with its Colt walnut grips which have been repaired at some stage. Its is also marked with what look to be Arabic writing, the US are known to have supplied these revolvers to Allied forces during WWII with many eventually being issued and used by foreign forces. A very interesting revolver. Deactivated to old specifications in 1990 with clear chambers it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
