This is a Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) No1 MK3* .303 rifle. Dated 1952, it was manufactured at the Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI). Very similar in design to the British made examples however, this particular rifle is from one of the first batches produced after India declared independence. Note the royal cypher has been replaced with the "ashoka" consisting of three tigers. It has matching numbers on receiver, barrel, rear sight and woodwork. These rifles were used throughout the British empire during many post war conflicts. Comes fitted with the correct 1943 dated RFI bayonet and scabbard, canvas sling and 5 inert 303 rounds with clip.
