A superb First World War British SMLE .303 bolt action rifle, manufactured by Enfield in 1917. This rifle was completed early in 1917 and had already been fitted with a 1916 dated barrel. On completion the barrel was then numbered and matched to the receivers serial number. Another very interesting feature found on the rifle is painted metal parts. All have been painted with British military suncorite black paint. This would have applied for WWII service and was a quick and easy way to protect metal parts. The bolt is WWII period and has been numbered to the rifle by the armorer, another clear indication of WWII issue. The rifles wood work is in excellent condition and is one of the best we have seen. Originally deactivated to old specifications with a working action, it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
