This is a WWII US military issued Smith & Wesson .38 M&P revolver with all matching numbers. The serial number dates to late 1941 with the correct US inspector of ordnance initials WB and flaming grenade. The barrel and pistol grip are stamped with the "P" proof stamps as found on US military issued weapons. However on the right side of the frame is the Canadian military property stamp, a letter C with a broad arrow within. Meaning this revolver was reassigned to Canadian forces. Another unusual feature is the script "NOT ENGLISH MAKE". Beginning in the early 1950's the British Government started releasing for sale some of the firearms sent to England from the U.S. as part of the Lend-Lease program. One of the requirements of the proof law was that the firearm be marked NOT ENGLISH MAKE, however in 1955 the proof laws were changed, and that requirement was dropped.
