Product Information

Rarely seen an early production German Gew 88 rifle. (Gewehr modell 1888) or “Komissiongewehr” (Commission rifle). Manufactured by Amberg, it is dated 1891 with German Imperial army acceptance markings. It was developed by a group of officers from GewehrPrufungsKomission (GPK, or Rifle testing commission of German army). This rifle is modified and adapted for the 7,9mm S-patrone ammunition, and is appropriately stamped with letter “S” and has the charger loader modification. Incredibly, this 126 year rifle still has its original barrel and wood work. The magazine base has its sliding cover and it is fitted with the correct cleaning rod. The Gew88 was in service throughout both world wars. The markings/initials on the but plate  "TX?? 13" are those of a depot. If a rifle was damaged or required fixing it would be taken to a field depot for the work to be carried out. Once competed the armorer would stamp the rifle.  Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
