An absolutely stunning condition pre WW1 Springfield M1903 rifle. This incredible looking rifle was manufactured by US firm Rock Island Arsenal (R.I.A.), the serial number dates to 1908 production. Serial numbers that year ran from 130,001 to 165,000 this example is number 149462. It was later rebarrelled in April 1933 which is dated 4-33, this would indicate that it saw military service and required this work to be carried out. It quite plausible that it saw action again during WWII. The M1903 were superbly well made, reliable and accurate rifles and for these reasons small quantities were used in sniper form. It comes fitted with an original US 1907, W.T.& B.Co, 1918 dated leather sling which shows signs of use with a repair to the rear section. The rifle has a superb bore and action and has been well maintained. This has to be one of the best examples available anywhere. Chambered in its original .30 06 it can be owned live on an FAC with the correct variation.
