Product Information

This is a very rare Tranter First Model revolver, chambered in .442 (54 bore). The First Model has a pin on the left side of the frame for the rammer to be attached to. The rammer would normally be kept separately and only fitted when reloading, and subsequently would be missing. The serial number has a letter Y prefix and T suffix. This model features a distinctive double trigger mechanism. It consisted of two levers, the actual trigger and a longer lever which projected from the trigger. Pressure on the latter with the middle finger turns the cylinder, which was then secured in position, and also cocks the hammer. The trigger inside the trigger guard can then be pulled with the first finger to release the hammer and fire the pistol.

This rare example was retained by H & J Vincent, 59 Collins St, Melbourne, Australia who are known to have sold Tranters in the early 1860s. During this period Australia was governed by the British Empire who were responsible for the defence of their own colonies. The British had 24 infantry regiments serving in the Australian colonies. This beautiful revolver would have been privately purchased by a British officer as his personal sidearm.

The action is in good working order. This rare and historic revolver is of an obsolete calibre and can therefore be owned live without any form of license. It can be fully stripped, cock and dry.
