Product Information

Rare WWI Vetterli Rifle Converted for the Italian army model 1870/87. Originally designed for the Swiss army in in the late 1860s, the Vetterli  was the most advanced rifle of it's type when adopted. The Italians adopted the Vetterli in and the early 1900s converting them to fire the 6.5 Carcano round and added a box magazine, evidence of this can be seen throughout this rifle. Originally chambered in 10mm, in 1881 the Brescia Arsenal retrofit and down sized the bolt or the smaller 6.5mm Carcano round, then added a box magazine housing, note the wood work has been neatly replaced either side of the housing. The barrel is now chambered for the Italian cartridge. The rear sight is Carcano. The rifle has been renumbered (MO6000) with Italian weapon numbers on barrel and wood work. Italian forces were issued with Vetterli rifles during the First World War. The Vetterli rifles were only ever produced in very small number from 1869 to 1890. This rifle is still live and requires an FAC with the correct variation to own. It can be deactivated to order with a working action.
