Product Information

A very rare 1907 Pattern Hook Quillon SMLE rifle bayonet with scabbard. This design feature was only in production for a few years. The hooked quillon bayonet was intended to allow the soldiers using it to catch an opponent’s bayonet and disarm him. The idea was soon dropped in the face of the coming first world war and to speed up production the hooks were ordered to be ground off all issue bayonets. You can clearly see when put along side a later example the taller and distinctive cross guard shade (hook quillon bayonet on the left). Also the cut or grinding marks made when it was removed. When this was modified all other markings were removed. Just visible on the blade is the "Crown" with 1907 pattern stamp below. On the reverse are the correct acceptance, broad arrow and bend markings seen on bayonets of this period. The cross guard is marked "DP"  - Drill Purpose and pommel with number 34 that has been struck through.
