Crimean War Period, Beaumont Adams, London Armoury .54 Percussion Revolver - War Department Stamped

This is a British military marked five shot, 54 Bore Beaumont Adams percussion revolver, circa 1853-1856, that was adopted by the British War department, primarily for naval use. The frame bears the British War Department acceptance initials  "W D" with a /I\ broad arrow above. The top strap is marked "London Armoury" who retailed this revolver and on the right side of the frame it reads "Adams Patent No 22257R" this serial number also appears on the chambers. Above this is "B6617" , the letter B denotes Beaumont Patent. The primary used for the lanyard hole through the grips is believed to be for securing the gun whilst on a naval vessel. It was ideal for use whilst on horse back with cavalry units. As a British issued weapon it is quite plausible that this revolver saw service during the Crimean War - October 1853 to February 1856.
