Product Information

An absolutely stunning, military issued Swiss Vetterli M78 repeating rifle, (model of 1878), chambered in 10.4x38 (.41) Rimfire - obsolete calibre. It was manufactured by Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik, Bern. These rifles are superbly made and were hugely powerful. At the time the design represented a significant advance in European military technology. Its firepower significantly outstripped that of any rifle in regular military service of the day. The Vetterli striker has a forked firing pin which passes through two firing pins holes in the bolt face for a double strike on the rimfire cartridge, improving the likelihood of ignition. A very clever design. 15,770 were produced from 1878 to 1881, on the top of the stock are the Swiss regiment markings (D3 + CI). This stunning rifle has all visible numbers matched. It can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The bore in super condition.
